A strong frontal system moving north from the Gulf of Alaska will
bring locally heavy rain and snow showers Monday afternoon and
overnight into Tuesday. The Fairbanks area and west to Nenana and
Manley Hot Springs and east to Salcha can expect rain showers to
begin between 2pm and 4pm Monday afternoon and transition to snow
or a mix of rain and snow between 6pm and 9pm Monday evening.
Showers will taper off by Tuesday morning. Snow accumulations will
be just a dusting in the valley, with up to 1 inch possible in
the hills.
Further north in the White Mountains, a quick 3 to 4 inches of
snow will be possible overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. This
may make for difficult travel along the Elliott and Steese
Highways.
